Just a Bad Night…No Such Thing…

Two important recent occurrences have shone the light on the finality of impressions...and how we can take lessons from both!
Specifically, in this post you’ll learn how to:
Use this one question to enhance the impression you strive towards.
Leverage your strength to add value to every situation.
What’s Your Moment of Truth?
If we witnessed anything from the presidential debate a few weeks back, it was that both performances underscored the immense pressure and scrutiny that comes with high-stakes encounters. From the aftermath of the debate, one thing is for certain, we can never again say: “it was just one instance, what’s the big deal?”
Trust takes forever to get, but a second to lose. Below are two tips to ensure you drive true value in your next presentation, conversation or, god forbid, debate.
Tip 1: Start with the End in Mind
Start with Ethos to convince your audience of your character and reliability. We write, rewrite, change fonts, practice a little, but never ask a simple question that can help ensure alignment with your audience.
At the end of this presentation, I want my audience to know, feel and do what? Although this helps tremendously to set up your content, it also goes a long way in synching your energy to that of your audience.
Tip 2: Ask Yourself: For This Presentation, What’s My Superpower?
US men’s gymnastics star Stephen Nedoroscik, known for his pommel horse prowess, recently emerged from his sleeper shadow and dazzled judges by showcasing his single talent when it mattered most. So, how can you do this?
Ask yourself, what is the one thing I can bring to this instance to totally synch with my audience to help move them from problem to solution?
For example, if you're data-driven but your audience isn't, or if you're energetic but they prefer data, focus on the aspect of the problem you can solve best and deliver it with precision.
